CharacterWizard app for iPhone and iPad

CHARACTER WIZARD is a mobile phone/tablet app for Primary 3 to Primary 6 pupils. It will check the pupils’ knowledge of the characters they have learnt in the form of games and will help them to recall the correct use of characters/words when they make mistakes on them. The App will randomly pick and send out questions on Chinese characters from textbooks of previous academic levels on a daily basis to the pupils to remind them to take a few minutes to review a Chinese character. They will be required to do exercises such as choosing the correct pronunciation, word formation, sentence making with target characters. The App will evaluate and provide corrective suggestions on the sentences that the pupils make with help from the Automatic Essay Evaluation (AEE) system developed by Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL). The results of this daily practice can be sent to the pupils’ Chinese language teachers for their instant knowledge of the pupils’ learning. The parents and CL teachers can also know about the status of the pupils’ knowledge of Chinese characters and words by the App’s statistics report. The App can not only help Singapore primary pupils to consolidate their knowledge on Chinese language but also help them correct the common mistakes and errors in their sentences and ultimately improve their Chinese language proficiency.
